Cross Cultural Communication

Hot and Cold climate cultures are quite different. One is relationship based and the other is task oriented. In the south it is customary to greet a store owner and to engage in small talk before asking for the item you wish to purchase. If one were to practice such a courtesy in a place like New York City, the clerk would probably become suspicious, not understanding your desire to be friendly and to establish a relationship.
