Cross Cultural Communication
Something which is often misunderstood about culture, involves the different way we look at inclusion and privacy. Be sure and take time if it is possible, to allow for a translation to be shared with the group if this is appropriate.
Inclusion And Privacy
Inclusion:
- Hot climate cultures are inclusive
- Individuals know they are included in converstions, meals etc
- Possessions are to be used by all
- It is rude to engage in a private conversation while others are present
- Being alone is not preferable given the choice
Privacy:- It is acceptable to have private conversation in a group
- People enjoy having time to themselves
- People are expected to ask permission to borrow things
- It is acceptable in a group to make plans with some members and not include everyone
- Permission should be granted before joining a private conversation
